Oh my gosh! Guys! It’s my 30th birthday this Thursday and lemme tell you…it feels weird to be 30 now! I’m so sorry I haven’t posted in a few days. I’ve been super, super busy with school and whatnot. Today’s posting agenda will kinda be one huge post about the following: Reading Update for The Meg, Showing Off my Birthday Haul, and also showing you guys my latest Thriftbooks Haul! Woo! Lots to discuss, look at, etc. First on the list: I’m gonna do a Reading Update for The Meg which is Book 1 in the The Meg Series by Steve Alten. Coming at you…right now!

“You were all alone?

Masao smiled. “Yes, Jonas, until I saw my first whale. From the prison gates, I could see them leap. The humpbacks, they sang to me, kept me company, occupied my mind. My only friends.”. He closed his eyes for a moment, in deep thought.” -Masao in The Meg

Masao and Jonas excerpt from Chapter 9 Masao in Book 1 of The Meg Series, by Steve Alten

Okay guys. This update is a little short but it’s worth it, I promise. So, currently I’m on chapter 9 of the first book in The Meg Series by Steve Alten. So far, the main character, Jonas has lost his wife to an extramarital affair with his best friend, traveled to Monterrey, California with the daughter of one of his colleagues and is witnessing for the first time the “Lagoon” project that Masao and his team of scientists have designed to help whales congregate safely along the shores of California and for him and his crew, to study them extensively. Masao has currently dropped a bombshell on Jonas saying that the project is now nearing completion, but is in grave danger because some underwater alert systems that they had set up along the Mariana Trench to monitor earthquakes, have now either gone mysteriously missing or been destroyed and Masao thinks that Jonas may be able to help as he has piloted his way through the Trench many, many times. So, my thoughts on the story so far? Lots of science stuff involved with it and not all the terms do I understand. But, with that said, I really am hooked on the story and I’m just waiting for the large, prehistoric shark to show up and start causing death and mayhem. This is the building up of the plot line, I get that. But, I mean we all came here for the shark….So where’s said shark? It’s chapter 9 and we’re still on the beginnings of the story. Waiting for some action to happen is definitely…Time consuming to say the least. But I hold out hope that we’ll get into the action soon enough. Right now, I think I’d rate this book maybe a 7.5/10 point scale. It’s gotten better, but it’s still very slow for now. Ratings are subjects to change as the story progresses, so we’ll see.

So, as I have said above, my 30th birthday is this Thursday! And I absolutely have the best family and friends ever! My big present from my mom was a day bed with trundle that I put in my personal library room (not gonna show pictures cause yeah) but, that was absolutely fantastic, I have been enjoying naps there in between classes and it’s just really cozy and everything. One of my sisters got me the Moleskine Book Journal which I have to say, is absolutely better than Goodreads and I would highly recommend it as a more old fashioned, reliable, secure way of keeping track of what you’re reading. If you guys like, I could do a post solely on that if needed so you guys can hear about the compare and contrast stuff. Also, my other sister got me some gift cards to Barnes and Noble which I used to get more limited edition Moleskine notebooks! (Can you tell I have an obsession with the Moleskine company? Haha) I adore their notebooks and other products and it’s a big treat to have been able to order more that I had my eye on for a while now, and they’ll be coming in a few days.

So, the books listed above and below are what I’ve ordered recently on Thriftbooks! The list is as follows:

  • Horrorscopes by Stella Hyde
  • Darkside Zodiac in love by Stella Hyde
  • The Trench: Book 2 in the The Meg Series by Steve Alten
  • The Fallen Series by Lauren Kate
  • Chicken Soup for the Beach Lover’s Soul
  • Chicken Soup for the Nature Lover’s Soul
  • Chicken Soup for the American Idol Soul
  • Chicken Soup for the Soul: Married Life

And so that’s it for this mega post on all things Bookish happening currently over here this week. Next up, will probably be another Reading Update for The Meg, The Intro Post to Chicken Soup for the College Soul, and The Intro Post for Autumn Brides which is part of the A Year Of Weddings Novella Series: Book 1 by Kathyrn Springer, Katie Ganshert, and Beth Vogt! So, get excited, get hyped, and as always, happy reading!-Caroline
