Whims of Fae: Seelie vs Unseelie Courts Aesthetics and Intro into the Courts of Fae

Hey guys I thought I’d do an aesthetics comparison post on both the Seelie and Unseelie Fae Courts from the Whims of Fae series. There are courts for every season in the world of Fae, such as: Light (Seelie), Dark (Unseelie), Summer, Winter, Fall and Spring. Right now I’m only going to focus on the notorious light and dark courts though because they’ll be having a bigger impact on the story. The books start off in the Summer Court where Scarlett is kidnapped by one of the Summer Princes and then in the end is returned to the human world by the other Summer Prince who spoiler alert, is actually more of a Fall Court fae himself. At the beginning of book 2 it’s revealed that Scarlett’s blood is that of which comes from the much larger end much more dangerous Seelie and Unseelie Courts. The Unseelie king recognizes this and gives her a pill that makes her humanity erase, and her fae blood come to completely take over her body. In this post I’m going to compare the Seelie and Unseelie courts through aesthetics. Although, disclaimer, even though I say Light court, that doesn’t mean they’re the “good” guys of the series. Far from it actually. In this series there really is no defined “good guy” so we’ll just take it for what it is. So here we go:

Seelie Court Aesthetics
  • The “Light” Court
  • Never merges with other courts and is almost always at war with the Unseelie court.
  • Higher caliber of magic for Fae of this type and are also extremely dangerous
  • Still very tricky, yet more agreeable than the Unseelie
Unseelie Court Aesthetics
  • The “Dark” court which isn’t saying much really since like I said, there’s no good guy in this series
  • Focuses on dark magic and is more controlling this a bit more tricky and dangerous than the Seelie court but equally just as bad if that makes any sense
  • The Unseelie King Kaelem is the one who will be teaching Scarlett to harness the power of the fae from both courts

And there you have it. That’s what we know about those two for now. The rest will probably come in time. It’s pretty complicated and intricately detailed so I’ll try and explain it as best as I can as we go along. But for now, that’s the best I can do. So, stay hyped, stay tuned and as always, happy reading. -Caroline
