The Selection Series: Thoughts and Feelings on the First couple of chapters AND More series that you’ll be seeing up on the blog very, very soon.

Hey guys! How are you? I’m doing pretty good myself. I’ve really been enjoying the new year so far. Even though it’s been less than a day. Haha. Anyways, I really have enjoyed reading the first few chapters of the Selection Series and I wanted to talk to you all about it and tell you about my thoughts and feelings as I reread this epic series. So far, I’ve read up to Chapter 6 of the first book and I’m really really happy with it. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed this series as much as I have now. It’s amazing how your opinion of a series will change with your life changes that you’ve experienced since the last time you read it. I really can identify with America Singer, the main character as she’s a rebel with a cause or without one whichever you choose to see it. A teen with a strong and good head on her shoulders who doesn’t want to conform to the norm of this caste based society. I don’t just love her character. I adore her. And I adore her family. All of them. Even her nagging mother who sounds an awful lot like my mother who I adore as well. (obviously) Her little siblings, her older siblings. Her dad. It all resonates strongly with me and it makes for a great start of a story when her selection letter arrives in the mail one morning. But the twist about her having a secret love affair with her friend Aspen is amazing as well. In the caste system that they live in, she’s a caste number 5 and he’s a lower caste number 7 where they’re more like servants than regular people. So, she’s fallen in love with someone who is seen as potentially beneath her. I love this about her because it’s rare to find a teen YA romance series where the character already is in a relationship with another character straight from the very first pages. As the story progresses and she enters to be selected and then is selected, the heart break that she feels when Aspen rejects her also resonates with me deeply. Being young and in love was hard and I think every girl that age knows that and can feel what she feels in those exact moments. Right now I’m at the point in the story where she’s leaving her home town to go off and live in the palace with Prince Maxon. She hasn’t met the prince or the other girls that she’s going to be competing against to win his affections but she’s not excited about it and she misses Aspen terribly. (As I would’ve too cause Aspen sounds like he’s hella hot, am I right ladies?!) Prince Maxon sounds like the type of guy you would marry and Aspen sounds like the type of guy you’d date during your teen years and then break up with by the time you go to college. At least for me anyways. Since the last time I read this story, I have gotten married myself this past May and am happy to report that I’ve found my very own Prince Maxon who treats me like the Princess that he apparently thinks I am so this also hit home for me. I’m really excited to see the story progress even further and I find myself going through about 4-6 chapters a day. I’ll be updating every few chapters on my thoughts and feelings so stay tuned for that. Now, onto other things. Down below will be a list of YA series that I will also be featuring on my blog as time goes on and I finish the Selection series. Some you may know of. Some you may not know of. But they’re some of my very favorites that are near and dear to my heart. So take a look and check it out. Until next time, happy reading. -Caroline
